To carry out testing and programming for both the enhancement of existing products and the development of new products our retail and cashless EPOS (Electronic Point of Sale) product range. We are particularly interested in candidates who may wish to specialise in database maintenance and programming as we are hoping the candidate will assume a full-time role in this position at the end of the apprenticeship.

Responsibilities of the Developer/Database Administrator Apprentice:

- Carrying out Database Programming and Program Design according to System Specifications and maintaining and enhancing existing program code under the supervision of the Development Manager or Senior Developer, and working to defined project timescales.
- Carrying out program testing to ensure the program code developed matches the requirements of the system specification.
- Preparing program and system specifications.
- Estimating Programming timescales and ensuring that programs are delivered to acceptable and agreed deadlines.
- For newly released software, providing post implementation software support and problem solving assistance to the front-line help desk team.
- Participating in handover meeting to quality assurance and project implementations.
- Under exceptional circumstances visit customer sites and carry out general product consultancy, implementation and training consultancy as required.

Requirements of the Developer/Database Administrator Apprentice:

Essential Education/Skills required:

Minimum of 5 GCSE passes grades A-C or enough qualifications to satisfy the National Apprentice Scheme requirements prevailing at the start date

Desirable skills

- Some form of programming or O/S certifications e.g. MCP
- SQL Server any version
- Exposure to Object oriented design and development (OOP), MS Office, Visual Studio
- Ability to monitor, control and undertake a variety of tasks simultaneously;
- Ability to work unsupervised and prioritise work - self-motivated;
- Attention to detail;
- Good written and spoken communication skills;
- Good inter-personal skills;
- To contribute to department planning as and when required;
- Up to date knowledge of industry requirements, and other services and products
- Retail or Catering environment point of sale experience
