Role Overview

Due to our continued success and business growth, an exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced and driven Transport Manager to join our successful team working on the Argos Contract at the Argos Distribution Centre in Basildon, Essex.

In this exciting role, you will manage and lead the Transport Team at Basildon to support the Argos Contract on a full time permanent basis.

Key Responsibilties

- Ensuring that the transport performance consistently meets the Argos contract requirements, in line with the agreed service strategy to their network, through optimising transport planning, technology, fleet utilisation and resource management;
- Managing all transport activities including the agreed business partners and contractors of the site to ensure that all budgetary and financial KPIs, legislative, legal and procedural compliance, and contractual commitments are met;
- Assisting in leading and developing a culture of continuous improvement to drive best-in-class activity and operational excellence, in line with performance objectives;
- Building and actively managing the relationship with Argos;
- Ensuring all activities meet the Wincanton standard for Safety, Health and the Environment (SHE), driving contribution to the safety culture
- Managing performance of the team and being responsible for service delivery
- Support the ongoing development of the site Culture through active participation in the 'Your Voice' programme
- Contributing to the wider Wincanton business supporting national initiatives where required.

Experience and Qualifications

You will be a driven, experienced and commercially aware manager with the ability to build and develop relationships and lead by example. You will enjoy working in a pressurised environment and motivating, utilising and developing others to ensure that the contract requirements are met.

Essential skills and experience:

- National and International CPC holder
- Experience of managing a team, including discipline and grievance matters
- Experience of managing in a transport environment and full knowledge of transport legislation
- Numerate, with experience of delivering targets within budgetary constraints
- Knowledge of computerised scheduling packages including Paragon and Isotrak
- Previous work experience in a 3PL or retail environment
- Experience of working in a Unionised environment
- PC literate
- Educated to a minimum of GCSE or equivalent level
